Candle Care Guide

At Cornish Embers, we believe that enjoying your candles should be a delightful and safe experience. To help you get the most out of your natural soy candles, we’ve put together this Candle Care Guide. Following these simple tips will ensure a longer-lasting burn and an enjoyable ambiance in your home.

1. First Burn

Allow a Full Melt Pool: For the first burn, allow your candle to melt all the way to the edges (usually 1-2 hours, depending on the candle size). This helps to create an even burn and prevents tunneling in subsequent uses.

2. Wick Maintenance

Trim the Wick: Before each use, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. This helps to prevent excessive soot, ensures a steady flame, and prolongs burn time.

Check for Fraying: If the wick appears frayed or burnt, trim it to maintain a clean burn.

3. Burn Time

Recommended Burn Time: For optimal performance, burn your candle for no longer than 3-4 hours at a time. This prevents the candle from overheating and preserves the fragrance.

4. Safety First

Never Leave Unattended: Always keep a burning candle within sight. Never leave a candle burning when you leave the room or go to sleep.

Keep Away from Flammable Materials: Ensure your candle is placed on a heat-resistant surface away from flammable items, such as curtains, furniture, and papers.

Keep Out of Reach: Keep candles out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidents.

5. Candle Placement

Choose the Right Spot: Place your candle in a stable, upright position away from drafts, vents, and ceiling fans to ensure an even burn and prevent flickering.

Use Candle Holders: If your candle is not in a jar, use a proper candle holder to catch drips and provide stability.

6. Extinguishing Your Candle

Blow or Snuff: To extinguish your candle, gently blow it out or use a candle snuffer to avoid smoke and protect the wick. Avoid using water to extinguish, as this can cause splattering wax.

7. Discontinue Use

When to Stop Burning: If your candle becomes too low (less than 1/2 inch of wax) or if the wick is burning unevenly or producing excessive smoke, discontinue use.

8. Reusing Containers

Recycling and Upcycling: Once your candle has burned down, consider repurposing the container. Clean it out carefully (ensure it’s cool and wax-free) for use as a decorative piece or storage solution.
